Enemies
Aliens came through the Rift and spread across the maps. Know how each one fights before you open fire.

No alien holds a patch of a map. They wander the whole of it, and new ones fly in from past the border. Most notice you at about the edge of your screen, so you see them turn toward you, and give up once you are well out of reach.
- Most attack on sightThe Drifter is the exception: it never starts a fight, fights whoever shoots it, then lets them go.
- Bosses waitA boss never starts a fight, so a big alien on your map is a choice, not an ambush. Once hit it never lets go, unless you reach a safe zone, are destroyed, fire an EMP or leave the map.
- They keep movingIn a fight an alien keeps moving round you and fires at where you are now. Circling just outside its reach works. The Harrier and the Outrider aim where you are going.
- Most run when hurtBadly damaged, most species break off, fly to the map’s edge and park there without shooting back. Their shield comes back, their HP does not. Bosses, the Husk and the swarms never run.
You can always fly away
No ordinary alien is faster than a fitted starter, except the swarms and the Outrider. A new pilot can leave a fight it did not start.
The aliens you meet from your first map on, roughly in the order you meet them.

Higher up your band you also meet the Splinter, on your sixth and seventh maps, and the Outrider on your eighth: fast, it leads its shots and fires a rocket salvo you can see coming.
The big ones, from your third map up. One fire rate from full health to destroyed: no phases, no rage, no weak points. A pilot fitted for the map can win the fight.
WARLORDBOSSIt waits for your first shot. Once you fire, it never lets go.

Most species come in more than one variant: the same alien, tougher and better paid. Each card above lists the variants its species has.
- BaseThe everyday version.
- EliteDrawn larger, far tougher, hits harder and pays more.
- ApexLarger again: the toughest and best-paid version of its species.
- SwiftA rare, bright pink spawn of the ordinary species: fragile and quick to fire, and it pays well above the usual. Kill it first.
Two bosses fight with a crowd. Destroy a Hive and its Motes burst out of the wreck and rush you.
The Brood is a nest anchored on your sixth map. It never attacks, but the moment it is hit it releases its whole guard of Broodlings, which make passes straight through whoever hurts it most and shoot anyone near. Left alone it rebuilds its guard and heals. It pays everyone who fought it by their share of the damage, so the galaxy map warns you: the Brood is squad work.
Swarms come close
A Heat Pulse hits everything close around you at once, which is exactly where a swarm wants to be.
Three more species live in the Deep Rift: the Leviathan, a world boss; the Wrangler; and the Sentinel, a turret. The Deep Rift is built and closed for now, so none of them can be met yet.
Rift Raids are not playable yet either.
